The foundation of data Iquira 1694 by order of Francisco Martinez de Ospina who gives the name of San Francisco de Iquira a town built in what is now known alley, exactly are the territories of farms El Carmen, La Mestiza and San Mateo.

Iquira Township is located in the western part of the department of Huila in the foothills of the volcano Nevado del Huila .
