Stunning Landscapes

This place popularly known as "La Laguna de Guillo" is a wonderful site worth knowing because it is located in the "Cerro Negro" in the municipality of Tesalia, to get there we travel to Tesalia, Then diverted to the village "Potrero Grande ", Iquira trip up there takes about 4 hours. This lagoon has an approximate size of two football fields, its shape is like the frame of glasses. This gap is usually filled in the winter season, where wild ducks come to swim in those water.

The foundation of Iquira

 It was in the year 1694 by order of Francisco Martinez de Ospina who gives the name of San Francisco de Iquira a town built in what is now known as the alley, just are the territories of farms El Carmen, La mestizo and San Mateo. Its first inhabitants were the Paez Indians on suspicion of a possible attack by the Indians Pijaos decided to move the town to the site it occupies today to be high ground, with a strategic position to spot the enemy. So it is given the name "High mountains" as meaning that primitive voices gave the word Iquira. In order to spread the Catholic faith among Aboriginal parents in 1656 the Franciscans founded a center of teaching and imposing St. Francis as its patron. In l672 the captains Francisco Perdomo Betancourt, Francisco Trujillo and Castro, Alfonso Montealegre and others, tried to raise the village to the category of town with the name Iquira Alley. This attempt is unsuccessful why the town was abandoned as did the Spanish in all people who did not accept his whims.

Iquira municipality thanks to the hospitality of its people proudly offers locals and visitors a valuable cultural legacy handed down from father to son; cultural wealth is reflected in large part thanks to one of the largest in the country and unique event of its kind: "The Folk Festival and Pageant Bambuco" recently declared cultural heritage of the nation.

GROUP IQUIREÑOS

This is the band's Iquireños, it is the official group of Iquira rajaleñas. The iquireños group was tabled on 22 May in the department of Teruel because 55 folcloricode national festival rajaleñas bambuco, there municipalities as Yaguara, Palermo, Teruel, etc. were presented.

This group is comprised of Jose Maria Polo, Indri Campos, Camila Castro Sora, Laura Sofia Tamayo, Laura Mercedes Rivas, Luisa Gabriela Cedeño, Daniela Perdomo Vargas Santos and Campo Elias Muñoz. This group did an excellent turnout yet the results are expected.

This place was built recently. after its construction hard time no use, but after a while decided to bring this site for younger children of 0-5 years, which the head of household mothers bring their children to this site so they are learning that is to say was adapted as a school where you teach children. besides teaching children also they teach their mothers all about family, how to treat their children, etc.
